We are pleased to announce that, after months of independent study, followed by a written exam, Dr. Hegmann has completed the requirements to become a Fellow in the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS)
Although he has long been a member of the ASLMS, Fellow status is the highest level to which a member can achieve. It makes him eligible to assume a leadership role in the Society.
Why This Matters
Laser & Cosmetic Medicine is a relatively new sub-specialty of Medicine. Because it is so new, there are few regulations or requirements regarding the safe use of cosmetic lasers.
Early on, a group of doctors recognized the need for some sort of self-regulation in order to promote safety and excellence in the use of lasers for patient care. At the same time, they wanted to promote research into the application of lasers in medicine. Thus, the ASLMS was created.
Having worked in this field since 2004, Dr. Hegmann chose to become a fellow in the ASLMS because he believes strongly that there is a need for some sort of regulation in this industry.
Dr. Hegmann also completed this course in order to deepen his understanding of laser treatments, how they can help his patients, and how to ensure their safety in order to achieve the best outcomes.
