The Palomar Fractional Laser works by breaking up, or fractionating, a single laser beam into an array of tiny microbeams. These microbeams are separated, so that when they hit the skin, only tiny columns of light penetrate the skin. Microscopic columns of treated tissue spread out over an area of untreated tissue is safer, less invasive and speeds up the healing process.

These microbeams penetrate below the superficial layer of skin into the deeper tissue, creating narrow, deep columns of heat. This stimulates the natural healing process in the skin surrounding these tiny columns. New, healthy tissue is created, and fresh, new collagen is produced to replace collagen damaged by aging and sun exposure.
